Who We Are
We are an organization created by tenants, working to fight the unethical practices of landlords. Our members build networks of solidarity to educate and empower one another through collective action. Taking on a landlord alone is scary and isolating, but asserting your rights together with your neighbors builds community and improves living conditions for all.
Why We Exist
The interests of tenants and the interests of landlords are directly opposed. The goal of every landlord is to maximize their profits by charging the highest rent they can get away with and spending as little on maintenance and other services as possible. Landlords by definition exploit the basic human need for housing. We exist to fight for housing as a fundamental human right.
How to Get Involved
The Ypsilanti Tenants' Union meets every other Sunday at Solidarity Hall. We post meeting reminders to our Instagram, so be sure to follow us! We also have an interest form you can fill out to contact us. The YTU is always looking to put on new events and reach out to tenants looking to build tenant associations and everyone is welcome!
